Japan to Ease Tourism Restrictions from September 7th

Today the Japanese prime minister announced the changes to international travel arrangements for international inbound travellers that will take effect on 7 September.

While some of the details are still to be provided we do know that:

  • International arrivals will increase from 20,000 people per day to 50,000 per day.
  • Visitors who are triple vaxxed are no longer required to have a pre-arrival Covid PCR test.
  • Inbound tourists no longer need to be part of a 'guided tour group' (we do expect that sponsorship by a Japanese Travel Agent will still be required).

These changes are most welcome and we expect that further easing of requirements for inbound tourists will be implemented before the winter season!
